Mother’s Day Gift: Bow Embellished Votives

Bow Embellished Votives

“Motherhood: All love begins and ends there.” – Robert Browning

Being a mother truly has been the world’s greatest gift. There is nothing that can compare with the love in your own children’s eyes. So when mother’s day comes around, I don’t expect fancy gifts, I just want a nice relaxing day and some sweet memories. Of course, breakfast in bed and then some time cuddled up with my boys in bed for story time is always appreciated, too.

With that being said, I always look for a little something for my own mom and for my mother-in-law to make them feel appreciated and loved on this truly sweet day. And there is nothing that says I was thinking of you more than a handmade gift 😉 !

If you are looking for a simple, but sweet present that won’t cost a lot- how about a pair of votive candle holders with sweet smelling candles.

  • glue gun
  • votive holders (I got mine from Ikea a 4 pack for 99 cents)
  • 3/8″ ribbon (mine is from Michaels from a few years back but any ribbon color and pattern will work). Cut into 6 inch strips (one for each candle)
  • scented votive candles (I bought watermelon scented ones from Ikea also a 4 pack for 99 cents)

    1. Fold over your ribbon so that there is about an inch leftover at the end and pinch it in the middle. There will be a little bit of overlap in the ribbon when folded over itself.

    2. Take the leftover portion and fold it up at a 90 degree angle (as shown in image 1) from where you are pinching it. (Image 2 shows what it looks like from the front).
    3. If you are using a solid color ribbon you can just wrap it around the middle until you have no extra ribbon. However, if your ribbon has a pattern on it (like mine) you will need to fold it down so the leftover part is now on the bottom.
    4. Now wrap the rest of the ribbon up and around the center (in image 3).
    5. Put a small dab of hot glue to hold the bow together.

    6. Put another dab of hot glue onto the back of the bow and attach the bow onto the glass votive. Allow a couple seconds to dry. (And be careful not to stick the bow with the hot glue onto your finger first – don’t ask me how I know that)

Wishing all of you mothers out there a very Happy Mothers’ Day!!
